Upon a full hearing of the difference between the townshipps
of Northmeals and Tarleton in the said County touching the
Settlement of John Leigh Elizabeth his wife Mary Thomas
Hugh John Jane Richard and Alice Leigh their Children it
within the said parish of North Meols aforesaid for twenty years last past
appears unto us that the said John Leigh hath lived as a
hired Servant for Severall years together within the
Townshipp of Northmeals aforesaid and no proof being made
that he hath acquired any Legall Settlement elswhere
Since that time wee therefore three of her majesties Justices
of the Peace and Quor of and for the said County doe hereby
declare and adjudg the last Legall Settlement of the said
John Leigh Elizabeth his wife Mary Thomas Hugh John Jane
Richard and Alice Leigh their Children to be in Northmeals
aforesaid the place where they now Inhabit and reside and
the Overseers of the poor of North=meals aforesaid are
hereby required to provide for them according to Law given

Ralph Peters, aged 60, of 55 Boundary Street (fisherman). Deputy coxswain.
He left a widow and eight living children, the youngest being 17.
He was the father of Benjamin Peters, also drowned in the disaster.
His widow was unable to do anything to maintain herself, and her married children
were in such poor circumstances, as to be unable to help their mother.
Peters was alive when found but lived foronly five minutes

who also died in the disaster. He was single and a member of the regular lifeboat crew

Of Ralph & Benjamin Peters - 15 shillings per week.
The allowance was increased to 25 shillings in February 1887.

Great grandfather Hugh who was born in July 1843. He later married Eliza Howard and they lived at 14 East Street, Haweside.
Both John and Hugh were fishermen i.e. shrimpers and Hugh was part owner of a boat, a Lancashire Nobby called 'Little Willie' of which I can find no trace, although I am certain it existed because my Grandfather who was a journeyman joiner made a model of it which I and my Father also Hugh, sailed when I was a boy. Eliza Howard was a laundress and her familly were also fisher folk of Haweside butI have no further details; she and Hugh had two sons, John, my Grandfather, and Thomas...

Know all Men by these presents, that me Peter Sutch of North Meols in the County of Lancaster Husbandman Lawrence Such & Richard Linnaker both of North Meols in the County aforesaid Husbandmen are holden and firmly bound unto the Right Reverend Father in God Semuel by Divine permission Lord Bishop of Chester, in the Sum of eighty Pounds of good and lawful Money of Great-Britain, to be paid unto the said Right Reverend Father, his lawful Attorney Executors Administrators or Assignes, To which Payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and every one of us severally for and in the whole, our Heirs Executors and Administrators, and the Heirs Executors and Administrators of every one of us firmly by these Presents Sealed with our Seals, and dated the twenty eight day of February in heninth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain France and Ireland, King Defender of the Faith, and so forth, and in the Year of our Lord God, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Thirty and five.
The Condition of this Obligation is such, that if Peter Sutch the above bounden Son of John Sutch & Administrator of all and singular the Goods, Chattels, and Credits of the said John Sutch late of North Meols deceased fisherman do make or cause to be made a true and perfect Inventory of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said Deceased, which have or shall come to the Hands, possession or knowledge of him the said Peter Sutch or into the Hands and Possession of any other person or persons for him And the same so made do exhibit or cause to be exhibited into the Registry of the Consistory Court of Chester at or before the twenty ninth Day of September next ensuing. And the same Goods, Chaels, and Credits and all other the Goods, Chattels, and Credits of the said Deceased, at the Time of his Death, which at any Time after shall come to the Hands or Possession of the said Peter Sutch or into the Hands and Possession of any other Person or Persons for him do well andtruly Administer according to Law; and further do make or cause to be made, a true and just Account of his said Administration at or before the twenty ninth Day of September which shall be in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty and six. And all the rest and residue of the said Goods, Chattels and Credits, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administrator he Account the same being first examined and allowed of by the Judge or Judges for the Time being, of the said Court shall deliver and pay unto such person or persons respectively, as the said Judge or Judgesby is or their Decree or Sentence (pursuant to the true intent and meaning of an Act of Parliament made in the two and twentieth, and three and twentieth Years of the Reign of his late Majesty King Charles the Second, Entituled, An Act for the beter settling Intestates Estates) shall limit and appoint. And if it shall hereafter appear, that any last Will and Testament was made by the said Deceased, and the Executor or Executors therein named, do exhibit the same into the said Court, making reques to have it allowed and approved accordingly, if the said Peter Sutch above bounded being thereunto required, do render and deliver the said Letters of Administration (Approbation of such Tentament being first had and made in the said Court) Then this Obligaion to be void and of none Effect, or else to remain in full force and Virtue:

In the name of God Amen the eighteenth day of February in the yeare of our Lord one Thousand seven hundred and twenty eight I Ralph Such of North Meoles in the County of Lancaster Husbandman do make and ordaine this present to be my last will and Testament in maner and form as foloweth that is to say Principally and fairest of all I commend my soule into the hands of God that gave it and my body Icomit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as touching such Temporal substance as it hath pleased God to bestow upon me I give Dispose of the same as foloweth Im… I will that my just deptes funeral expences and probates of this my last will be paid and discharged out of my personall estate. First the Said Teastater Gilbert Spencer declared that his son in Law Hugh Hodges two daughters should have his graye mare betwixt theme
And then he the Said testator Gilbert Spencer did Declare yt to be his mynd & Will that his Daughter in Lawe Alice Spencer should have the some of one Shillinge forth of his whole goods
And then hee the Said testator Gilbert Spencer did declare yt to bee also his mynd & will that all his Due Debts funerall expences & Charges what soe Ever Should be paid & Discharged forth of his Saidgoods

The 27 day of Jun 1833 - Joseph Howard & Henry Howard the executors in this will namedwere sworn in common form and they further made oath that the proposed estate and effects of the estate within the Diocese of Chester were under the value of 200 pounds, before me C.Forshaw surrogate. The executor died the 7 Jun 1833. Testament in his presence and in the presence of each other, have herunto subscribed our names. Court of Chester infra Wills 89857 This is the last Will and Testament of me Richard Howard of the parish of North Meols in the county of Lancaster which as hereby make publish and declare whilst I amof perfect sound and disposing mind memory and understanding in manner and form following that is to say First I discharge and make liable my personal and leasehold Estates with and to the payment ofall such debts and sums of money as I sahll owe as the time of my decease my funeral and Testamentry expenses the cost and expenses of the probate of this my will and of my Excutors and Trustees herein after named in and about the execution of the Trust thereof-- I do hereby write and direct that my DAUGHTER ALICE ROBINSON widow do hold the house outhousing and garden together with all my household furniture and farming stock as they now stand for the term of four years next after my decease free from any rent or charge whatsoever excepting Lords rent and taxes and in consideration there of Iorder and direct that she make a Cottage out of the Outhousing at her own expense she receiving the rent share of during the said term of four years next after my decease I also will and direct that my SON RICHARD HOWARD and my DAUGHTER ANN WARING receive the rent of my other leasehold now in the occupation of Alice Rimmer to be equally divided betwixt and amongst them share and share alike for the like term of four years next after my decease and after the expiration of four years after my decease I will and direct that the tents arising out of and from my said two leasehold Estates situate in Blowick within North Meols aforesaid now vested in me by that where I now live by virtue of a lease under Peter Hesketh Fleetwood Esquire and that now in the occupation of Alice Rimmer by virtue of a lease under Henry Bold Hoghton Esquire to be divided equally betwixt and amongst my said SON RICHARD HOWARD and my DAUGHTERS ALICE ROBINSON and ANN WARING yearly and every year during the said leases share and share alike to whom I give and divise the same their and each of their respective heirs Executors administrators and assigns respectively for and during all my Estate term and Interest unexpered of and in the same premesis under and by virtue of the said Leases But subject to the said Leases and to the trusts covenants and agreements therein mentioned and contained--And I also will and direct that at the expiration of the term of four years next after my decease that all my said Household Furniture and Farming Stock be sold and the money arising therefrom be equally divided between and amongst my said Son RICHARD HOWARD and Daughters ALICE ROBINSON and ANN WAREING. and my friend John Sawyer Executors and Trustees In witness whereof I the said RICHARD HOWARD the testator have herewith affixed my seal and subscribed my name this ninth day of July one Thousand eight hundred and thirty two. This is the last will and Testament of me Thomas Howard of North Meols in the County of Lancaster Husbandman which I make ordain and publlish this twelfth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Twenty in manner following. WILL: Chester Wills, FHL film 088408 This is the last Will and Testament of me HUGH HOWARD of North Meols in the County of Lancaster, Husbandman. I order all my just Debts, furneral Expences and the charge of proving hereof to be paid out of my Personal Estate. I leave all my personal Estate & Chattles to Lease for the Tenement held by Thos Bale of Church Town under Mrs. Anna Maria Bold if such a Agreemt can be made and if not my Will is that there shall be paid unto ELIZABETH my Wife the yearly Sum of 6 pounds out of my chattles or arising from the aforesaid Estate during her natural Life -I give and bequeath to my Son JOHN HOWARD, my Son RICHARD HOWARD, my Son THOS HOWARD, my Son HUGH HOWARD, my Daughter JENNY HOWARD, each the Sum of 20 pounds either arising from the aforesaid mentioned Estate or out of my Personalty. I give and bequeath to my Wife ELIZABETH HOWARD the bed, and bed Stocks on which I lie with everything thereto appertaining, two best chairs in my House, Fire Ironand everything thereto appertaining, Two Tables, Corner Cupbord & Tea things. - Likewise, my Will is immediately after my decease a Sale be made of all my live & dead Stock both within Buildings & without. I put Ann in the earlier family because it would be more likely she would have children by 1676 if she is older.

In the name of God Amen the fifth day of March in the Year of our Lord god one Thousand Seaven Hundred and Twenty two I Henry Wright of South Hawes in North Meols Within the County of Lancaster fisherman being very weake & infirm of Body but of Sound and perfect memory praised be God do make and ordain this my Last will and Testament as followeth first I bequeath my Soul into the Hands of almightygod by whose merits I trust to be Saved and my Body to the Earth to be Decently entered at the Discration of my executors herein after named after which done it is my will & mind that my debts And funerall Expenses and Charges of the Probat of this my will be first paid & Deducted out of my whole personall Estate after which I Give and Dispose of the Remaining part of my said personall Effects which God hath Blessed me in this Life in this following manner & form
