We are pleased to announce that the 14th Summer Institute on Sexuality, Culture, and Society will be held at the Graduate School of Social Sciences at the University of Amsterdam from July 11 to August 6, 2010.
Description
This highly specialised programme is for advanced students, primarily PhD and MA students in the socio-cultural sciences and professionals working for NGOs. The scientific directors are Prof. Diane di Mauro and Prof. Niko Besnier.
An integral part of the institute is a Research Seminar, led by Diane di Mauro. Other courses include Young Sexualities, taught by Deevia Bhana, the Cultural Production of Sexuality, taught by Robert Sember, and the HIV/AIDS Epidemic Contextualized, taught by Graeme Reid. One module (which includes site visits) focuses on the Netherlands and will address topics such as sex work, Amsterdam as a former gay capital, adolescent sexuality, and the campaigns for safe sex.
Fees and Application Procedure
Tuition fees for non-credit students are EUR2300 and for students who receive credit EUR2700. Fees must be paid in full before the beginning of classes. A non-refundable application fee of EUR50 is also assessed.
The fee includes lunch on class days, but does not include housing and travel to and from Amsterdam. Student apartments are available at approximately EUR550 for one month.
An application form is available on the Institute's website. After receiving your application, the admission committee will make a decision based on your academic background, your commitment to the field of study, and a letter of reference.
The application deadline is May 1, 2010. Applications received after May 1 will be placed on a waiting list.
